Networks to Neighborhoods: a look at population health

Released: Tuesday, January 24, 2017

Marcus Hills, a senior at McKinley High School in Baton Rouge, dreams of one day following in the footsteps of Dr. Stephanie Broyles. Broyles is a population researcher at Pennington Biomedical who studies how our various environments (work, social networks, neighborhoods, parks, etc.) shape our disease risks and health outcomes.

As part of his senior research project, Hills interviewed Broyles about her work and what motivates her as a researcher.

"I see so many of my friends who live unhealthy lifestyles right now, and I want to make sure that as we grow up, my friends and I can live healthier lives. Dr. Broyles' work in the community has inspired me and it's why I'm here today to hear more about her work and why it's so important." said Hills.
